Hey,

Hiking up and down the hill is free. If you want to take the gondola down that will cost you.

hiking up is free, the gondola down is Can $ 5.

if anyone knows of other "grouse grind" like trails, i.e. hike up, Gondola down, please let me know.

I believe the GG download used to be free -- and, if you go hike singing pass to the top of Whistler, you get the download by Gondola free. In fact, I think this is the case for most if not all ski areas with hikes near them.

I know of one similar in NH in the White mountains, it's called Cannon Mountain, at Franconia Notch. The trail up leaves not far from the parking lot (left) and is identifiable on area hiking trail maps. It also connects up with several Appalachian trails leading to AMC huts (and great food). It's steep like the grind, and of similar or longer length.

Near Jasper, there is another -- I believe it's on trailpeak. You can see it right out of town, off main street.
