Regarding trail Juan de Fuca trail near Victoria, BC

http://www.trailpeak.com/trail-Juan-de-Fuca-trail-near-Victoria-BC-776

I've hiked sections of this trails before but this year I want to backpack the whole thing, probably over four days, no hurry...

Been training by hiking in East Sooke park with a heavy pack, and I've done a variety of weekend and longer backpacking trips over the years, plenty of outdoor experience.

I'd like to get a small group together to do this trail sometime this summer, and also a few other trips around the island or mainland...

who's interested?
Thomas

I am going to be hiking this trail from 01Jul2010 to 03Jul2010. I plan to hike the West Coast and Juan de Fuca back to back from 27Jun2010 to 03Jul2010. Let me know if you are going to be out there in this timeframe.

Hey, I'll be up-island that weekend on another hike, but thanks for replying.

Doing the WCT and JDF back to back is pretty hard-core, these are tough trails!
Do your research so you know what to expect, the weather up the coast changes instantly, good raingear and boots are essential...

Otherwise, have fun an post some pics of your trip!
cheers,
Thomas

Very true, I have hiked about 110 miles this year in preparation for this trip. I also read everything online and 3 guide books for the trails. But of course if you have any first hand advice it would be invaluable. Thanks.

These are not wide, flat or well maintained trails... They follow the rugged coastline, so you're going up and down, left and right, over roots and rocks and mud!
On the WCT you will be climbing ladders with your pack on, keep that in mind...

Black bears are pretty common but not much of a problem, everyone should have their own can of bear-spray and bear bell. One or two people should carry those little marine air-horns, they are by far the best way to deal with bears. There are some food lock-ups, but be prepared to hang your food high in the trees, don't cook near your tent or keep any food in it, etc...

It might be summer everywhere else, but expect foggy mornings, cool evenings and random rain on the coast...

If you need any last minute gear when you get to Victoria, check out Robinsons, Capital Iron and MEC, they are all downtown.
