A sturdy day hiker works fine, you don't need a full on backpacking boot, so MEC or Coast or many others can set you up with a light day hiker. A running shoe wouldn't give enuff support, to flimsy, but some people do the grind that way. You'd be best off with a light day hiker -- check our gear reviews section off hiking portal, there have been several reviewed.
