Regarding trail Berg Lake Trail near Valemount, BC
http://www.trailpeak.com/index.jsp?con=trail&val=5150
I am wondering if people have experience taking kids on the Berg Lake trail. We have a 5 year old who regularly hikes with us, and we have an amazing stroller (Chariot Cougar). Is the trail general wide and level enough to push a good off-road stroller? We don't mind carrying it over a few hairy areas, but really have no idea what the general condition of the trail is. Thanks in advance for any info. |

ht tp://www.trailpeak.com/index.jsp?con=trail&val=5150 < BR>From the trailhead to Kinney Lake should be fine. Above there to Whitehorn it is still okay but there will be places where the stroller will be a problem. Like crossing the suspension bridge just before Whitehorn campsite. From Whitehorn to the top of Emporer Falls is a steady grind, 5 year old might tire on this section. From there to Berg Lake should be okay. Hope this is useful. Have a good hike. I would love to get back there this summer. |

ht tp://www.trailpeak.com/index.jsp?con=trail&val=5150 < BR>The trail past the 5km mark is narrow enough that 2 people cannot walk side by side and there are some single 4x6 crossings of streams/rivers that would be impossible for the stroller to get across. After the Kinney Campground there are a number of river crossings that are 1 person wide and not suitable for a stroller at all. We took our 6 and 7 year old last year as far as Whitehorn but we stopped at every camp along the way so that they could rest and play making it a fun adventure for them. If you do take your kids make sure to train them well, long walks several times a week up and down hills. If properly trained a 6-7 year old can clear 15-20km's a day easy. |
