This Conservation Area, owned by the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority, includes the McNutt Family Trail and the Richardson Ridge Trail.

These trails extend along the escarpment which is a dominant feature in the City of North Bay.

They begin at the Ski Hill and extend through the forest. There are two trails, one is roughly 40 minutes long, the other took us 3 hours in winter (6.4km).

They are hilly, and offer some good views of the City of North Bay as well as Lake Nipissing with some of its islands. Rivers and streams are crossed using well maintained bridges.

Directions:

From the HWY 11/17 junction near Seymour Street, head northwest on HWY 11/17. Turn right onto Algonquin Avenue/HWY 11, and right onto Airport Road.

After about 2 km (1.2 mi), turn right onto Pearce Street. Turn right at Greenhill Avenue, and left onto Janey Avenue where you will see a large parking lot. The trailhead is located behind the ski tower.
