Chester Lake is nestled among towering peaks of the Canadian Rockies in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park near Kananaskis Country and Spray Lake in Alberta.

The Alpine Larch and Western Larch (Larix occidentalis) lives at high elevations in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, British Columbia, Montana.
October 3, 2014...the larch are turning color.

Directions:

Drive from Canmore -approx. 40 minutes on Smith -Dorrien Trail to clearly
marked sign "Chester Lake" parking lot.

From there follow marked trail. Gaining elevation approx 310 m.
Expect already snow on the trial. Recommended good hiking boots.

Downside The crowd can be very large during Larch Season Comment 9/20/15. Nice hike. No snow on the trail. Larches are near peak. Very large crowds in late morning. We arrived about 10 in there were some on the trail. Coming down it was non-stop with people hiking up. Total r/t 3 hrs & 10 min.
