This is a short, steep path that climbs to a tremendous viewing area. From the lookout, which is still far below the crest of the imposing Castle Mountain, the Bow Valley extends in both directions in almost limitless majesty.
You will work to ejoy this view, climbing more than 530m in just 3.7-km, but few have ever complained after experiencing the panorama they are rewarded with at the lookout.
The return trip, it hardly needs to be mentioned, is all downhill and a much faster walk than the ascent.

The trailhead is located approximately 5-km northwest of Castle Junction on Highway 1A.

UpsideA great half-day hike to a lookout providing good views of the Bow Valley and Storm Mountain. DownsideYou gain 520 m over 3.7 km so it is quite steep all the way up, but it is completely in the trees so you are not exposed CommentThis is a good hike for anyone who is driving along the Bow Valley Parkway as it lets you really see the area. The trail is soft so it is not too hard of a climb.
It takes 2 hrs up and 1 hr down for a total time of 3 hrs.
