Following the runoff from the Cave and Basin mineral springs in Banff, this 0.5 km boardwalk trail leads from the downhill into a nearby marsh. The warm springs creates a mini green house effect year round and a haven for plants and animals. Wild orchids and a wide variety of birds can be found here. This is one of the few places in the park where you can see our only snake species - the completely harmless garter snake. You can also read the interpretive signs, watch the tropical fish from the fishwatching deck, and try your luck in a birdblind.

In winter please check the Avaluator (Online Trip Planner) rating is: Simple. See more trip planner route details here.

Directions:

Banff National Park: From Downtown Banff cross the Bow River bridge and turn right on Cave Avenue. The trail begins at the Cave and Basin National Historic site which is found at the end of Cave Avenue. There is a separate fee to get into the Cave and Basin.

This is a MUST SEE for anyone in Banff.
