This is a narrow steep trail from the village of Cadomin to a very interesting bat cave located on the mountain 340 meters above. Hikers follow a forested trail up and along a winding creek bed, entering a closed in valley. A steep climb follows out of the creek to tree line and another 200 meters to the cave. The trail ends in a windy and exposed place with views of the valley below.
Bats hibernate in the cave in winter, so the cave is closed from September 1 to May 1 to protect the bats. Groups of up to 6 are allowed in the cave in the summer, pets are not allowed. The cave entrance is a narrow cleft in the rockface with a large snowdrift that blocks part of it early in the year.
From Hinton drive south on highway 40 to the village of Cadomin. Drive through Cadomin and park at the trailhead to the right about 1 km past the General Store. There is a trail sign and advice about clothing and equipment for caving.
Accommodation is available at the nearby Cadomin Motel, units with kitchenettes available. Call 780-692-3663 for reservations.
