In winter this is a long access to Berglein Lake from the St Mary's lake road.

Ski from the 34km parking to the 49km White creek road. Turn right and follow this for 5km to the bridge. Cross the bridge and go up a steep hill, then easy skiing for another 6km to a small bridge across Boulder creek.

You will find several outfitter cabins and a lodge here, nice views of the surrounding peaks. Turn right and follow small trail heading up parallel to Boulder creek just by the side of the lodge. After 2 km you will reach cabins of Ptarmigan Tours backcountry skiing.

Continue up the valley behind the cabins gaining elevation above Boulder creek. Trail is marked with old orange squares. Reach a large rockpile and open slopes before the lake. Climb up the rocky hill, and then get a view of the lake. In summer, there is a small campsite by the lake, on the other side of the creek. Ski across the lake to reach various slopes, that can only be skied when conditions are very stable.

The lakeshore has no trails, rockslopes and bushwhack required to continue further. It is far easier to take along a small, light packraft from Alpacka Raft to cross the lake and explore the valley and climb the mountains in the area.

The cabins of Ptarmigan Tours backcountry skiing at Boulder camp are located below Boulder Pass area (11U 553960 5509423).

Current conditions:

Drive south from Kimberley on Hwy 95A for 5km and turn west on St Mary's Lake road. Drive 16km on paved road to the lake. Continue straight on the gravel road along the north side of the lake, past the last farm (jacob's). In winter you will have to park at about the 34km sign, snowplow stops here. Continue on the road, do not turn left at 39km, continue to the 48.7km point. Here there is a road to the right marked as the White Creek FSR.
