The Yellowhead ski club maintains a nice set of ski trails on Bell mountain with 30km of groomed trails. Yellowhead Loppet takes place in February, with 10km and 5km courses. A small cabin and warm up area, firepit are located near the 5km parking.
The main road continues to large alpine meadows at 6000ft. From here hike to top of Bell mntn to 6500ft or 7100ft. At 7.6km on the road, keep left, pass a mudhole if you have 4WD and continue to a campsite at 14km and 5000ft level. Hiking time to top about 2 hours.
Trails are usable in summer for hiking, but some are overgrown.
Drive to Bell Mountain road 8km west of McBride. Turn left off hwy 16 and follow the road for 5km. There is parking here and trail signs. A ski cabin, maps and toilet is nearby.
Closest town is McBride, where you can stay at the comfortable cabins in a
secluded spot above the Fraser river, minutes from
the trails at Beaver Creek Lodge with
fabulous views of all
the surrounding peaks.
