UpsideVariety of vegetation and geological features, some good views.
Did not require bug repellent (early Aug). DownsideNot well marked in some areas; GPS essential if you are not already very familiar with the area. Comment"Well maintained and easy to follow" does NOT apply to the whole route. If I hadn't brought along GPS with topo maps loaded we would have been cooked by 2km in. Getting from the power line up to Westwood Ridge crosses a number of mountain bike trails that are more used than this path, and they look like where you "should go," so use care. Also, the steep cliffs and high trees decreased our GPS accuracy in many places.
This is not a route that many take to get to the summit, apparently, as those we encountered (in the lower half) blinked speechlessly when we asked what they knew of the trail to the summit. It seems they were mostly going across our route, between Morell Sanctuary and Benson View/Witchcraft.
In the end we only got about halfway, then decided to divert back down to Westwood lake via the creekbed (dry at this time of year), bringing us out at the nortwest end of the lake and forming a loop route. Will post it as a new trail, since it was pretty enjoyable.
