An easy stroll up an unofficial trail for anyone staying at the Athabasca Falls Hostel (http://www.hihostels.ca/alberta/en/index.aspx?sortcode=2.9) in Jasper National Park. While the view pales in comparison to others offered in this scenic park, it is the perfect place to enjoy your morning cup of joe and watch the sunrise paint the mountain in alpenglow.
Walk out the hostel walk access road to a small cairn marking a trail the right. (Just before the outer gate.) Follow the trail (cutline) to the top of the hill and turn back sharply to the right, following the edge of the old river terrace untill you reach a bench.
Other trails near the Athabasca Falls Hostel include: Athabasca Falls, Horseshoe Lake, Geraldine Valley and the Fryatt Valley. In winter the Athabasca Falls is also the start of several cross country skiing trails such as Athabasca Falls Loop, Geraldine Lookout and track-set trails on Highway 93A to the Meeting of the Waters and Moab Lake.
Athabasca Falls is also the start of the popular ?Canyon Run?, a rafting trip on the Athabasca River. (http://www.jaspercanadianrockies.com/activities.html) .
Athabasca Falls Hostel is 30 km south of Jasper on the Icefields Parkway (Hwy 93).
