Take Undermountain Trail (off US 41) to Paradise Lane Trail. Paradise Lane Trail will connect with the Appalachian Trail. Take AT south over Bear Mountain (north side of mountain is steep/rock scramble). AT will intersect with Undermountain Trail again. Take that back to parking area.

Directions:

Route 44 to US 41 in Salisbury. North on US 41. Parking area is about 3 or so miles up on the left. There is also a parking area for Lion's Head hike on the AT before that.

Downside Trail can be slippery after it rains. Also it is a straight up straight down hike so dont expect alot of good viewing points unless your on the top. Comment This was one of my first hikes i ever did. I was 14 and with my boyscout troop at the time. It was a struggle for me but it was fun. I have come back to this trail atleast 3 times after that because it was a fun time. Its a fun part of the AT.
