This trail is a loop that takes you to three lakes/ponds. The trail starts off with the most vertical gain of the whole trip. There is a steep incline that takes you up to a rocky lookout that oversees the parking area. From this point there is little to no vertical gain or loss; a very flat trail. The trail is well marked and gives you ample directions to each of the three ponds. After a stretch you will reach a cross roads that will tell you to turn left towards Middle Settlement Lake/lean-to or right towards Grass Pond and Middle Branch Lake/lean-to. I always go to Middle Settlement Lake first. There are a few cross roads that are well marked that will take you to Middle Settlement Lake/lean-to. From the lean-to you will have to back track to get back to get on the trail to Middle Branch Lake/lean-to. This section of the trail follows a stream and can be a touch soggy as there are marshlands. Watch for ruffled grouse through this area. Follow the signs to Middle Branch Lake/lean-to but again be prepared to back track to get on the trail back to Grass Pond. Grass Pond is reached by a side trail on the way back to the parking area. The fishing here is outstanding. Once again back track and follow the trail back to the first cross roads you reached and return the way you came in.

The trail head is easily reached using the town of Old Forge/Thendara as a reference. From those towns head south on route 28; the parking area is on the left. Once parked cross the road, the trail head and sign in are on the opposite side of the road.
