Cunningham Falls is located in the northwestern corner of Cunningham Falls State Park. The falls themselves vie for "Maryland's Highest Waterfall? with Muddy Creek Falls in Swallow Falls State Park. Depending on who's measuring Cunningham Falls is between 51 and 78 feet tall. The falls are a short hike from the parking lot. For a change of scenery on the way back from your time at the falls you can take the yellow-blazed trail on your right called Cunningham Falls Cliff Trail and get to play among some rocks and boulders.
Follow US 15 north from Frederick. Near Thurmont, approximately 15 miles north of Frederick, take MD 77 west for 4 miles and turn left onto Catoctin Hollow Road. Right into William Houck Area of Cunningham Falls State Park in 1.2 miles. Pass the campground to the falls trailhead parking lot.
