Hike to the top of the highest peak in Georgia on the A.T. Blood Mountain (4,461 feet). The mountain got its name from a battle between the Creek and Cherokee Indians that caused the mountain to run red with blood.

Directions:

From Dahlonega, drive 9 miles north on US 19 to its junction wth Georgia 60 in Stone Pile Gap, continue north on GA 60 to the junction with GA 180 in Suches, turn right, heading east on GA 180 for 4.5 miles, turn right on Lake Winfield Scott Road. The trailhead sign and parking area are at the south end of the lake.
