3.9 miles of relatively level hiking along a deep fresh water pond. Occasional small uprising affords nice views over the pond. The seeting is very nice within a Cape Cod's Nickerson State Park. Enjoy a mid summer swim or make it a fun snowshoing adventure during the rare yet amazingly occasional Cape Cod snow fall. (minimum of 8 inches ground cover preferred for a worthwhile snowshoe experience). After departing the Eastern shore fisherman's landing follow the pond's edge and evident hiking trail in a clockwise direction. You will meander within 50 yards of the waters edge at most times. You will reach the west end fisherman's landing at 1.9 miles. Soon after you will see camping sights up on the bluff. You can continue along the shore or head up hill through the camping area. Ensure to head back down hill toward the shore line and continue another mile to the East Fisherman Parking area. Park rangers at the information booth can provide rudimentary trail maps.
US highway 6 to exit 12. Go West to Main street (away from Orleans). Nickerson Park Entrance is 1.6 miles on Left. After entering the gate, go 0.2 miles to sign marked "Area 5" turn off. Turn down passing Flax Pond beach to the end parking area on the shore of Cliff pond. Trail head goes across the little sandy beach (you will feel like you are between a big pond and a small "weed filled" pond).
