Moderate hike. Good to take children on. Connects to the Appalachian Trail and Bear Mountain. Beautiful views of the Twin Lakes and the surrounding farmland. The gps trail shown starts at the parking lot described and extends past the Lion's Head peak, up to Bear Mountain. The 2nd summit is at 2,316 feet and is the highest peak in CT.
After ascending Lion's Head, an adventurous hiker could continue North and summit Bear Mountain, CT's highest peak. This would bring you up to 2316 feet in elevation. The GPS trail shows the entire trek from the Bunker Hill parking lot, up Lion's Head and beyond to Bear Mountain.
Directions:
Depending on the direction you are coming from, take route 41 or route 44 to Salisbury, CT. Turn at the Town Hall onto Bunker Hill Rd and follow the it to the parking lot. Once in the parking lot, the trail is clearly marked. There is a mound of rocks to climb up right before reaching the summit. Summit is 1,738 feet.
