Preston Land Co., or PRELCO, is the largest continuous chunk of land left in Chittenden County at almost 2,000 acres. The VAST trail goes through the property, so during the winter time watch out for snowmobiles.
Through conservation easements, public access to the land is garunteed for the whole area except for a pond and a 200 foot buffer around that pond. Please respect the families wishes to keep that area private.
There are well maintained dirt roads that make for easy hiking, snowshoeing or X-C skiing. Mid summer is a good time to check out the property, there are several dense raspberry fields near the VAST trail.
This is a beautiful landscape that feels truly wild. It's worth a few hours to simply wander the trails throughout the hillsides. It's not hard to find ruffed grouse or deer...and rumor has it there may be moose and even a resident bear!
This is a popular hunting spot, so please take precautions in the hunting season...but still go, because the colors are beautiful!
Please note there is no motorized/wheeled access (including bikes) with the exception of snowmobiles on approved trails in the winter.
Exit 11 of I-89, head east on Rt 2. Take Snipe Ireland Road on your left after going through downtown Richmond. Park on a clearing on the right side of the road after you pass a gated dirt road to the left. Climb over the gate...and you're on the trails!
