Mostly hard packed dirt and roots with the occasional bridge at the locks. I recommend starting in Pittsburg Pa and going south from there. Its mostly down hill if not all downhill. With a good set of tires you can yourself at around 18 miles an hour. I had road tiress on since I was pedaling from Philadelphia to Cumberland. They worked pretty well except for the muddy spots. I was also loaded down with 60 pounds of gear to go to work in Virginia. What better way to commute to work then by bike from Pa. Phila to Point of Rocks Maryland in 2 days. If you get to Whites Ferry in time take it across. It's only $1 for cyclist, and we are welcome. This is where I learned not to talk on a cell phone and try to cook. Don't ask but I'm sure they remember me now. If you want to do it sometime , hit me up I'm always down for a great tour.
I was on a bike. Not to sure how to get here by car. Sorry. check out the website. it's great
