This is a nice morning or afternoon hike any time of year. Easy to get to, well marked trails, nice views with a stone tower on Poets Seat.
At the parking lot, follow the footpath to the right through the stone pillars. The trail is marked with red trail markers. Follow the path, you walk past views of the Connecticut River and follow around to the top to the tower.
Stop at the picnic bench and take in the views of the town of Greenfield.
After a short break, and walk a short distance down a paved road. Cross the road and re-enter the woods on a wide path with blue blazed trail and then re-join the red blazed trail. There are some great rocky outcrops and thick forest. Follow the trail back to your car and make sure to stop at People's Pint in Greenfield for a well deserved snack and beverage.
from RT 5 and 10, cross the bridge over the Deerfield River and then take a right onto Cheapside St following signs to Turners Falls.
In about a mile, take a left onto Mountain Road.
There is a small parking area on the right about .9 miles, enough for a about 10 cars. There is a laminated trail map at the trail head and this hike is described in Hiking the Pioneer Valley by Bruce Scofield.
