"Far enough away to gain seclusion, yet within reach of those whose genuine interest prompts them to make the trip, Beaver Lodge extends a welcome to you if your heart is right." Grey Owl.
The hike itself in fairly uneventful, but the destination of Beaver Lodge (Grey Owl's cabin) is worth the trip. Relatively level, well marked path following the shore of Kingsmere Lake. Stay at North end campsite, then hike the remaining 3 km as a day hike on day 2. You can easily hike back out in the afternoon. NOTE: This is a place of great respect as the graves of Grey Owl, his wife Anahereo, and daughter Shirley Dawn are at the upper (guest) cabin.
Take HWY 263 north from Waskesiu to the parking lot at the end of Kingsmere Road. This is the trailhead. The hiking trail runs along the east side of the Kingsmere River, The canoe portage along the west.
