These caves are best in the winter when the water that falls into the small ravine becomes frozen making for a solid wall of ice which you can climb behind through holes made through the ice wall.

The trail is a well used snowmobile trail, so be cautious! It's pretty easy going, takes about 1/2 hr to get to the Ice Cave.

Note this may also be known as Midland Ice caves., another listing on trailpeak.

Directions:

Heading toward Sussex turn off at the Bloomfield exit go through Bloomfield and turn right onto Rte 121 then left onto Rte 855, about 12 mins in this road. Best to Park at the Shell at Rte 855 meets Rte 124 Upper Midland Rd. After parking and you face Rte 855 you'll see a well used groomed snowmobile trail heading through the field into the woods. You should be facing west.

Head through the field on the snowmobile trail and when you meet another trail turn right. A short distance up this trail you'll come to a Snowmobile Hut take a left at the Hut and keep heading down the trail. You'll soon see a small sign on a tree "Ice Cave" and a trail to the right beaten down by snowmobiles. Keep walking until you come to another fork in the trail, keep right and this beaten trail takes you down to the ice cave.
